Some Notable Major League Signings

Archie Bradley: Bradley signed a 1 year deal worth $6M earlier this week with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies needed to make a solid addition to their bullpen after having one of the worst in the league in 2020. Bradley was one of the big bullpen arms on the trade block at last year’s deadline and was ultimately traded to Cincinnati and helped them reach the playoffs. The Reds opted not to re-sign Bradley as they are trying to shed payroll.

Pedro Baez: After winning a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020, Baez has signed a 2 year deal worth $10M with the Houston Astros. It will be the first time in Baez’s major league career that he isn’t pitching in a Dodgers uniform. The Astros will be adding a strong arm to their bullpen that includes Ryne Stanek and Ryan Pressly. With Hendriks, Bradley, and Baez all signing recently it seems that the market for relief pitchers is starting to move fast.

Alex Wood: After returning to the Dodgers after spending the 2019 season in Cincinnati, Wood won a World Series in 2020. Most of Wood’s work came out of the bullpen with only two starts on the season. The forer All-Star looks to return to being a full time starting pitcher with the San Francisco Giants on a 1 year $3M deal.

Kurt Suzuki: Kurt Suzuki is still playing at least one more year as the veteran backstop signed a one year deal worth $1.5M. The 37 year old catcher has had a very good Major League career and won a World Series with the Nationals in 2019, now he will try to help the Angels get back to the postseason, somewhere they haven’t been since 2014.
